About Monet
Monet Lu has been a celebrated cultural figure in the Filipino-American community for many years. His leadership, vision, talent and innovation built his versatile image as beauty queen maker, stylist impresario, events maestro, successful entrepreneur, and one of the Filipino-American community's most outstanding citizens.
As hairstylist, makeup artist and designer, Monet's first love is beauty advocacy. He believes that when people feel good about their appearance, they are more apt to move with confidence and put 100 percent in all that they do. Monet's work as the ultimate stylist is legendary. Every girl who aspired to be a beauty queen fulfilled this dream under his tutelage. This earned him the moniker the Queenmaker.
Profile
Monet Lu is an artist in every way. His roots bear a rich history of passion for artistry specifically in hair and make-up, where he is heralded to this very day as among the best in his field.
He grew up in Marikina, Philippines where his styling talent first ran wild. He learned from mentors and peers but ultimately developed a signature style that has his own unmistakable signature.
In the 80s, Monet decided to take his talent to the United States, leaving behind a thriving salon chain business in the Philippines.
He migrated to the U.S. with literally the barest of essentials: The clothes on his back and some, a couple hundred dollars, a pair of scissors, and a brush.
Monet had a vision to recreate his success in the Philippines and establish another chain of salons in the United States. His journey to the top was fraught with personal and professional challenges. But with his renewed faith and with the help of loyal friends, Monet managed to soldier on.
Never did he imagine that his success in the U.S. would far surpass what he had originally envisioned for himself.
These days, Monet is the proud owner of four salons in Van Nuys, Panorama City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
His empire doesn't stop there. He has since branched out to event productions through his events and marketing company, Events Specialists International. ESI is the producer of the longest-running [20 years!] and most prestigious Filipino-American awards/fashion show in Southern California.
In 2006, Monet kicked off another passion to develop his own line of all-natural, beauty care products, Skin By Monet. The beauty products formulated to achieve healthy and beautiful skin has been enjoying grand-slam success.
But Monet is not all business. Another of his passions is giving.
Over the years, Monet has fulfilled monetary and in-kind pledges to different worthy causes: the Marikina Revitalization Project, AIDS Center in Pasadena, Alab Ng Puso, Every Nation Ministries, Gawad Kalinga, Bantay Bata 163, and many more.
For his outstanding professional and humanitarian work, Monet has been chosen to receive many awards including the Most Successful Man of 2002 granted by Poise International Beverly Hills; the Active Participant of the Asian-Pacific Island Program of the USA awarded by the Department of Justice in 2001; and the Sealing of Lasting Friendship Award from then Secretary of State March Fong Eu in 1981.
He also earned the Governor's Award for his fundraising efforts on behalf of Mt. Pinatubo victims and a plaque of recognition by the mayor of San Bernardino for his contribution to the arts and fashion during the United Nations Day some years ago.
In December 2005, the Los Angeles Mabuhay Lions Club hailed Monet as its Citizen of the Year for his significant contributions to the Fil-Am community.
Monet continues to look for ways to balance his passions. Mostly, he feels blessed to be in a position to help.
